Overview

The Learning to Love Family Class can be customized to suit the specific needs of your church families. The class is designed with Parent Packets (included in the Director's Manual obtained at the Training Workshop) and Student Curriculum (to be purchased separately upon completion of our Training Workshop - see Publications for pricing). Spanish teaching is also available.

Unique Features of the "Learning to Love" Family Class

Class is designed to include Parent Packets and Student Curriculum.

• Scripture-based teaching that offers salvation to both youth and parents who attend
• A five-month program that is FREE to the community
• Provides weekly interactive opportunities for families to learn how to communicate in a positive way
• Classes include biblical teaching, role-playing, games and sharing
• Offers parents suggestions on how to support and discipline their youth
• Typically held during the same time as existing services as a convenience to parents who attend church
• Reduces the pastoral counseling needs of families in the local church
• Equips lay leaders to minister at a deeper level to families for long-term results

Topics of Family Classes

The first five meetings are for PARENTS ONLY and cover these topics:

• First Meeting covers staff introduction, program orientation and request for commitment from parents
• Second Meeting covers discipline techniques/guidelines
• Having a plan
• Balance of biblical love and discipline
• Salvation and God's role in the family
• Behavior contracts
• Third and Fourth Meetings cover communication skills and principles
• Fifth Meeting covers God's role in the family

The next four months are for Children (ages 6-13 years) and they cover these topics:

• Feelings - Are they OK - How do they affect our behavior?
• Communication
• Biblical principles
• Steps to healthy communication
• Roadblocks to communication
• Trust - Who we trust and who we don't trust - How issues from our past affect who we trust
• Guilt - How to deal with it - False Guilt vs. Conviction
• Rejection - How to deal with it - Security in Christ
• Hope in Jesus - This covers the topic of salvation
• Anger - Biblical, practical ways of dealing with anger
• Forgiveness - What does it mean and how do we spiritually and emotionally forgive
• Game Night - You may use this open, fun night to have leaders pray with their kids individually
• Love Unit 1 - Selfish and Unselfish love
• Love Unit 2 - The five love languages of children
• Self-Esteem - A biblical and practical approach
• Acceptance - A biblical explanation
• Parents and Children meet together on last evening of class for family activities and awarding certificate

Cost of the Family Classes

The Learning to Love Family Class is provided at NO CHARGE to all families in all communities.
